Guernsey State Park

While most visitors to Guernsey State Park come to fish, camp, and explore, this park is home to several beautiful examples of historic Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) architecture. These structures, made of stone, iron, and hand hewn logs, were built during the 1930s as part of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s efforts to alleviate skyrocketing unemployment rates and preserve America’s natural resources. Park visitors should not miss a trip to Brimmer Point, the Castle, and the Guernsey Museum. These structures provide excellent views of the park and an up close look at the fine craftsmanship of CCC structures, which are known for reflecting the natural beauty that surrounds them. The CCC also constructed many of the park’s roads, bridges, and trails that wind throughout the park, taking advantage of the region’s spectacular panoramas. After enjoying the facilities and sights, visit the Oregon Trail Ruts and Register Cliff in nearby Guernsey to see some of what the emigrants on the Oregon Trail left behind..
