Wyoming Territorial Prison

Experience a piece of Old West history in the magnificently restored Wyoming Territorial Prison! Built in 1872, just four years after Wyoming became a territory, the prison is one of the best preserved sites of its kind in the country. With numerous inmates, including the notorious Butch Cassidy, the prison has many stories to tell. Visitors can enjoy a variety of exhibits while touring the facility and see firsthand what prison life was like for men—and the occasional woman. While at the prison, check out some of the other sites on the grounds, including the historically furnished Frontier Town, the Warden’s House, a Union Pacific boxcar, and the Horse Barn Exhibit Hall. Call ahead for a schedule of special events and to find out what’s playing at the Horse Barn Dinner Theater, also located on the grounds.
